Please think carefully about how you would answer the questions attached. Make some notes/bullet point ideas ahead of our session. Please complete the research task and try to find out as much about your school/faculty and the curriculum they teach ahead of the session.

Research your school!

Knowing as much as possible about the school you are applying to, shows the leaders in that school you care about and are willing to go the extra mile. Try and find out as much about this as possible.

  1. What is the name of the headteacher and head of the department you are applying to?
  2. Where in the UK is the school situated? (Use a map – know the town/county)
  3. What values do the school feel are essential? (how do these align with your own)
  4. What is the name of the headteacher and head of the department you are applying to?
  5. Have you researched your subject-specific area on the school website?
  6. What curriculum do they teach and how is it similar to what you have taught previously?
  7. What exam boards do the school use?
  8. Does the school have a ‘motto’?

Prepare for these interview questions

  1. What does outstanding learning look like?
  2. How do you assess learning throughout the lesson?
  3. Tell me about a lesson you taught that you were really proud of and why?
  4. What do you do if a child discloses something to you?
  5. Tell me about an instance you have had to deal with challenging behaviour.
  6. What is your motivation for wanting to teach in the UK?
  7. What is your biggest strength/weakness?
  8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
  9. What do you love about teaching?
